Think and Reflect

Class 6 English · Chapter 10: Change of Heart · NCERT Poorvi section pp. 108–109

Learn

Prabhat at first: he played only when he was sure to win, which shows he was afraid of losing. His fear actually stopped him from enjoying games and from trying new ones. Was his approach healthy? No: it made games stressful and even led him to cheat.

Surya's attitude was different from Prabhat's: he enjoyed every game, whether he was great at it (badminton) or hopeless (basketball). Losing didn't upset him, so he was relaxed, joked, and had fun, and people enjoyed playing with him.

Why is sporting spirit important? It means playing fairly, respecting your opponents, and accepting both winning and losing gracefully. It keeps games fun and friendships strong. A win by cheating is not a real win.

Why "Change of Heart"? A change of heart means a change in how you feel or think. Prabhat goes from someone who cheats to win to someone who plays for joy, with a great sporting spirit. Explore: read about Indian sportspersons like archer Deepika Kumari (practised with homemade bamboo bows) and javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra (Olympic gold, then silver at Paris 2024), whose hard work and spirit inspire millions.
