Learn

About the memorial: the National War Memorial (Rashtriya Samar Smarak) in New Delhi, near India Gate, was established in February 2019. It is a national monument built by the Government of India to honour our brave soldiers who gave their lives for the country.

What the poem says (in our words): the short poem describes the memorial as a grand sight in the heart of Bharat that proudly tells the stories of the brave. Every name etched in stone holds a soldier's story. Soldiers who served on battlefields, in the skies and across the oceans (the Army, Air Force and Navy) stand side by side for Bharat.

The eternal flame: an eternal flame glows there in silence, paying homage (respectful tribute) to their courage. The poem ends by asking us to always remember their sacrifice with pride and respect. Activities: read the poem aloud, recite it with your classmates and teacher, and learn it by heart.
