Class 6 English · Chapter 7: Neem Baba · NCERT Poorvi section pp. 83–84
Learn
Listening (Peepal Baba): in the book, a boy named Rahul tells his mother about Peepal Baba, who plants trees with his team and started a movement to plant and save trees. The idea came from his English teacher when he was 11. His family moved often, and he planted trees in every new city. People first teased him with the name "Peepal Baba" because he planted peepal and neem trees, but now everyone uses it lovingly. Mother and son decide they should plant trees too.
Speaking: leaf cards. Collect dry leaves from four different trees or plants. On the front of a card, draw and colour the leaf's shape; inside, write the plant's name and one use. Explain to the class how you made the card, then ask classmates to guess the plant before you open the card.
Writing: a paragraph about a tree you like. Plan: where it is (roadside, park, school), how it looks (height, trunk, leaves, flowers), and why you like it (shade, fruit, medicine, shelter for birds, beauty). Give your paragraph a title, e.g. "The Gulmohar at Our Gate".
Example opening: "Near our school gate stands a tall gulmohar tree. Its thick brown trunk is rough to touch, and in May it is covered in bright orange-red flowers. I love it because…" Use adjectives and maybe some personification to make your paragraph come alive!
Explore: plan your tree paragraph.
- Sort each sentence into the right part of your plan.
Remember
- Plan a descriptive paragraph: where, how it looks, why you like it, plus a title.
- Peepal Baba shows how one person can start a movement to plant and save trees.
