Class 6 English · Chapter 12: Yoga—A Way of Life · NCERT Poorvi section pp. 125–126

Learn

Practice (with c) is a noun: the activity or habit itself. "Regular practice of stretching keeps you flexible." "It requires a lot of practice." "Eating fruit should be a daily practice."

Practise (with s) is a verb: the action of doing something again and again to get better. "I practise yoga every day." "Our coach asked us to practise running on grass." "I practise deep breathing when I feel stressed."

Advice / advise work the same way: advice (noun) = a suggestion: "My teacher gave me good advice." Advise (verb) = to suggest: "Doctors advise us to sleep early." Notice that "advice" ends with an /s/ sound and "advise" with a /z/ sound.

Memory tip: in each pair, c comes before s in the alphabet, and noun comes before verb in "noun–verb". So c = noun, s = verb! Word game: using letters like A, R, Y, E, N, G, O (always including A), make words such as: age, oar, earn, range, orange, angry.
