Drawing Angles
Class 6 Maths · Chapter 2: Lines and Angles · NCERT Ganita Prakash section 2.10
Learn
Aditya wants to draw ∠MOR = 30°. O will be the vertex and OR the base arm. Step 1: draw the base OR with a ruler.
Step 2: place the centre of the protractor on O, and line up OR with the 0 line.
Step 3: starting from 0, count up to 30 on the same row of numbers, and mark point M there.
Step 4: join O and M with a ruler. ∠MOR = 30° is ready.
Your turn: draw an angle of 75° with the protractor.
Angle guessing game: guess an angle first, then measure it. Use what you know: 90° is an L, 45° is half an L, 135° is an L and a half.
Remember
- Draw the base arm, put the protractor's centre on the vertex with the base on 0, count to the angle and mark a point, then join.
- To estimate, compare with 90° (an L) and 45° (half an L).
Quick check
When you draw an angle with a protractor, where do you put the centre of the protractor?
- On the vertex
- At the far end of the base arm
- Anywhere on the arm
- On point T
Answer
On the vertex. The centre always goes on the vertex, with the base arm along 0.
Think about it
Without a protractor, try to draw 34°. How can you get close?
One answer
34° is a little more than one third of a right angle (30°). Draw half an L (45°), then make it a bit smaller.
